“Wow, it’s huge!” I heard someone exclaim. The helicopter we were flying in pulled down closer to the ground, and looming in front of us was a giant mountain with a cave in the side of it. The cave was newly discovered by scientists who were too scared to explore it, so they decided to offer a reward of one million dollars to anybody brave enough to check it out. There were ten of us, and nobody knew what to think. I saw the fear in one woman’s eyes as the scientists on the chopper started handing out primitive weapons, including spears and swords. When the scientists came over to me I picked out a barbaric looking spear with three knives on the end and a knight’s shield with a lion on the front. The helicopter finally touched down, and all of us got out and started heading towards the cave. Immediately people started choosing groups to stick with. “Why don’t we just stick together?”, I asked. A big, tough looking man said “Don’t be a pansy, man, it’s gonna be easy”.
After everybody made groups- me being by myself- we went our separate ways into the cave. The very first sight to see in the cave struck terror into my heart, as I saw giant scorpions about the size of a small house. I thought about what to do as a scorpion started heading my way, and I stuck the bladed end of the spear up into the air. As the scorpion moved over me, the blades sliced through its stomach, dumping about a gallon of green blood on me. Even with its stomach wide open and its guts spilling out, the scorpion was still alive, and it turned around and started coming back at me. I ran down a path in the cave, my heart racing as I was trying to escape from the monstrous arachnid. As I was running, I tripped over a rock on the ground and turned around, seeing the monster almost right on top of me. I held up the shield as the big stinger headed right towards my face, and it struck my shield, bouncing off. The creature tried again, but as soon as the stinger struck the shield, I cut it off with my spear. I heard an eerie scream as the stinger fell to the ground and the scorpion tried biting me, but got nothing but a mouth full of blades. After the monster fell to the ground, hopefully dead, I got up and started running in the opposite direction as fast as I could. Turning a corner, I ran into one of the other loners of the group. We both fell over, and he stood up drawing his sword, facing me. It was the big tough guy from outside. “I want that money, and I need to kill you to get it!” he yelled. “No, you don’t need to do this” I said, backing up as he advanced toward me with his big sword. He swung at me and I blocked it with my shield. As his sword struck the shield, I lunged with my spear, aiming at his chest. Even though I missed my mark I still hit him in the arm, causing him to drop his weapon. I sliced through his stomach, spilling his blood all over the floor and he dropped to the ground, dead. Grabbing his sword and sheath, I started walking slowly down the path. I saw a group of three ahead of me, battling a giant fire ant. “Help us!” they yelled to me. I seen two openings in the left wall, one behind the group, and one behind the ant. I ran into the opening and came out behind the ant, bringing down my spear on it as hard as I could. Falling into two pieces, the ant died on the ground, and the three people stood up and started running right away. I did the same, and I heard a scream behind us. I looked behind, but I regretted it, because I saw a human hanging from the stinger of one of the scorpions. The three of us that were left kept running and I saw a woman get in front of me. As she was running, however, she ran right into the stinger of a giant scorpion, then the monster bit off her head. I stabbed it in the face, pulled my spear out, and started running again. As we were running again, the other person pulled out a bow and shot behind him, hitting a scorpion and dropping it dead. We kept running and hit a dead end. We had no choice but to turn around and face the monsters behind us. The other man used his bow and dropped two scorpions almost immediately. He had only one arrow left, and there were three scorpions. He loosed his last arrow, but missed the shot. Immediately I threw my spear, hitting the scorpion he missed, killing it. We both pulled out our swords and charged towards the scorpions. I cut the head off of one and looked over to see my partner without a head. I stabbed his killer in the eye, pulled my spear out of the scorpion I threw it at, and stabbed the monster in the underbelly, dropping it dead. After I killed all the monsters, I decided to retrace my steps and go to the entrance of the cave. I got to the entrance with no trouble, but there was a large group of fire ants feeding on the dead scorpion there. There were two other paths that I missed on my way in. From the middle path came two scorpions, which the fire ants went to attack. I started running towards the entrance, but a huge group of scorpions entered from outside, blocking my path. I tried to lure them away so I could kill them and get out, but I saw knives come in from out of nowhere, hitting the scorpions and killing them where they stood, causing a blockage of the entrance. “No!” I yelled. I turned to see a man with a belt full of knives and he ran over to me. “Oh crap! I didn’t know that was the entrance!”, he said. “Yeah, but I’m sure there’s another one. I came from the path on the right, it’s a dead end. So we’re not going that way. The middle path is blocked by those things”, I said, pointing at the monsters, “so that leaves the left path”. “Well, the middle path is like a maze, and after you get out of the maze it’s a dead end. It took me forever to get back here, so that one’s no good anyways. It’s gotta be the left path” said the other man. We started heading down the left path and we came across a hole. There was no way acrossed it and there weren’t any other openings in the walls. As soon as I was about to go back I heard a terrifying screech, then another one following it. “We need to find a way across” I said. “Look, those look like hand-holds over there! And on this side too! We need to climb down then up the other side, hurry!” I said. I started climbing down slowly, using the handholds, and he followed. The walls were wet and slippery for some reason and the going was slow. We finally reached the bottom and started running towards the other side. We made it to the other side, but we were out of breath, so we decided to take a small break. “So, were you in a group?”, he asked. “No, I was on my own coming in, but I’ve seen four people die. How about you?” I asked. “Yeah, I was in a group of three, and they both died” he said in a distant voice. I counted in my head, and that meant there were four of us left. “Let’s go find the last two” I said. We started climbing fast and made it up the wall in a hurry, determined to find the other explorers. The sight at the top horrified us. We found the others alright, but they were dead. One body was missing a head and an arm, and the other body was nothing but a waist and legs, missing the top half. We couldn’t believe that the others were dead, but there was proof of it right in front of us. “The blood is still wet” the other man said, feeling it. “That means that whatever did this is still around, so we need to have our weapons out”. He took out a short sword and I took out my spear and shield, and we started walking slowly, weapons at the ready. I saw a glare of light and it took me a couple minutes to figure out what it was. “It’s an exit!” I yelled. We started sprinting towards the hole in the wall, but a scorpion, bigger than the rest, jumped down in front of us, blocking the exit. I heard a scream behind us and turned around to see two more scorpions. “I’ll take these two, you take that one!” I shouted over the disturbing scuttling noise made by the giant arachnids. I threw my spear at one of the monsters, but it bounced right off of the head. “They’re armored!” I yelled. I drew my sword and attacked the scorpions, but my attacks were doing nothing. I saw a small patch of skin between the neck and the head and stabbed the sword in there, killing one of the giants. The scorpion dropped dead with a deafening scream. I sliced my sword through the neck of the other scorpion, cutting its head off, and I turned to help my new partner. He wasn’t doing very well, his arm was missing and his eye was swollen shut, but the scorpion was bloodied up as well. I charged at the monster with my sword but I got hit by the tail and I was sent flying backwards. I witnessed the disgusting animal stabbing my partner with its pincher and tearing him in half by opening it. I got up and charged again, and this time I was more successful, cutting the creature’s pincher off. It let out a scream filled with pain and tried to grab me with its other pincher, but I removed that from its body too. I held up my shield as I saw the stinger coming towards me and I cut it off. I grabbed the stinger and stabbed the scorpion in the head with it. “Have a taste of your own medicine!” I yelled at it as the monster writhed on the floor in pain, dying a slow, brutal death. There was pus coming out of the wound, and the monster finally stopped squirming, dead. I climbed over the creature to get out of the cave and found a helicopter outside. I ran to the helicopter and found the pilot and all the soldiers in it. Dead.
